Families for Lead Freedom Now is a Syracuse‑based nonprofit organization led by families directly impacted by the effects of childhood lead poisoning. Formed in response to the ongoing public health crisis affecting Central New York’s most vulnerable neighborhoods, the organization is dedicated to advancing health equity, strengthening housing justice, and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to grow up in a safe and healthy home.
Our mission is to educate the community about lead hazards, advocate for stronger protections for children, and support families navigating the medical, educational, and housing challenges caused by lead exposure. Grounded in lived experience, we work to elevate the voices of those most affected and ensure they are centered in policy decisions, enforcement practices, and community investments.
Families for Lead Freedom Now collaborates with residents, neighborhood organizations, legal and health partners, and government agencies to promote systemic change. Through community outreach, rights‑based education, public testimony, and policy advocacy, we strive to hold institutions accountable and drive meaningful improvements in housing quality and environmental safety.
We believe that childhood lead poisoning is entirely preventable. Our organization exists to build community power, reduce environmental health disparities, and create a future where no child in Syracuse is harmed by lead.
